An Apple in a Cherry Bowl

This bowl came about as a surprise.  I was turning a wild cherry wood piece into a bowl with a natural edge.  As I penetrated the heart wood, the shape of an apple appeared in the dark heart wood.  It is almost like a red delicious apple in the cherry bowl.

I am Ron Brown, the artist behind tree turnings.  Many people ask where I get the wood for my art work.  The wood pieces I produce are turned from trees that have been damaged by natural disaster, disease or removed for development.  Logs from these trees are then turned on a lathe and redesigned into attractive bowls or vessels.  Each piece is envisioned while still in the log and then shaped into a unique one of a kind item.  Most of my pieces are crafted from native woods from the mid-Atlantic area.  Often I am asked to turn a keepsake bowl from a damaged tree in a family’s yard where they or their children played, had a tree house or a swing.   I will be posting pictures of new works and updates on this blog, so please check back regularly.
